Baccarat and Craps

Craps is one of the most popular casino games around, both on and offline. Yet few people know there is a great game that is just as exciting called Baccarat. While the style of play is very different, both require clever people who want to have fun and are not afraid to risk some cash in hopes of hitting a big cash jackpot.

Craps Basics

In craps, the game revolves around a pair of dice. The shooter tries to roll a lucky seven on the first roll. If seven or eleven doesn't come up, whatever number is rolled becomes the point. It is then a race to see whether the point will come up and everyone wins or a seven will be rolled. This time seven is a losing number. An interesting aspects of craps is that there are no playing cards involved.

Why Baccarat Can Be Even More Exciting

In Craps you have the excitement of not knowing what number may come up on the dice. In real money Baccarat, you must figure out which of two hands of playing cards has the greatest chance of equaling the number nine. The better you are at math, the more of an edge you will have. Of course, what makes the game impossible to predict is that all "ten" cards and "face" cards are not counted. Additionally, any amount over ten is changed to reflect the number in the ones column. In other words, if your hand adds up to seventeen, you really have a seven. Since seven is close to nine, you have a good shot at winning.

Bet on the shooter, Bet on the Hand

In both games, you do not have to be the main player to place wagers. In craps, it doesn't matter who the shooter is. You decide what you want to bet on. You can even bet on the shooter to lose and the "House" to win. In Baccarat, you have the choice of which hand to bet on. You can bet with the "Player's" hand or on the "Bank's" hand. These are two of the only games where you can actively play with the casino.

Nine is Common in Craps, Less So in Baccarat

Mathematically, when you roll two dice, nine is one of the most common numbers that can come up. If you roll nine as your "come out" roll, you are in good position to win. In Baccarat, nines may be less common, but they are almost always a winner. The only times a nine does not win is if both hands have a nine. Then it is considered a push and all bets are returned. The point is, overall, nine is just as lucky as number seven. In fact in these games, getting a nine before a seven may be what makes the difference between winning a thousand dollars and losing five hundred.
